Welcome to Square 2.

Square 1

I am using Hayfield Bonus Aran yarn with a 4.5mm hook.  Gauge is not important, although all of the squares do need to be the same size.    Check they are square by folding your work into a triangle and seeing if the edges meet.  The pattern is written in UK crochet terms.

  • Chain 25, not too tight.

  • Now you are going to work into the 4th chain from your hook  (do not count the loop on your hook as a chain, work where the pen shows)
  • Work a Treble into this stitch  (Yarn round hook, through the stitch, pull yarn back through  (3 loops on hook) yarn around, pull through two stitches (2 loops on hook) yarn around, pull through 2 stitches  (1 loop on hook)

  • Work a Treble into the next stitch.  You now have a cluster of 3 Trebles.

  • Next, Chain 1 and skip a stitch on the foundation row and work into the next one as shown by the pen.
  • Work a Treble into this space.

  • Work a Treble into the next TWO stitches  (one in each)  which will give you a cluster of 3 Trebles.

  • Now, Chain 1 and skip a stitch on the foundation row and work a Treble into each of the next THREE stitches.  So you can now see you are getting clusters of 3 Trebles with a space between each.
  • Work all the way across your foundation chain in this way (Chain x 1, Treble x 3), you will finish with a cluster of 3 Trebles.  You should have 6 x clusters of 3 Trebles with a hole inbetween.

  • ROW TWO - Turn your work and Chain 4.  (this counts as a treble + 1 chain)

  • Skip a stitch and work into the next stitch, as shown by the pen - it is the stitch before the hole.  Work a Treble into that stitch.

  • The next Treble will be going into the chain space between the clusters.

  • Work a third Treble into the stitch after the hole, as shown by the pen.

  • Chain 1, then repeat the cluster of 3 as above, working into the stitch before the hole, the hole itself, then the stitch after.

  • Work this pattern all the way across ending before the end on a cluster of 3 Trebles.
  • Chain 1, then you will work into the turning chain of the row before as shown by the pen.
  • Work a single Treble into this space, which will give you a nice straight edge.

  • ROW THREE - Turn your work and Chain 3 (this counts as a Treble stitch)
  • Next you will be working straight into the first chain space.  Pop a Treble in that hole.

  • And another Treble into the stitch directly after the hole.

  • Chain 1, skip one and continue the pattern across.
  • When you get to the end you will need to work your final Treble into the turning chain of the row below, as shown by the pen.
  • Work your final Treble into this space.

  • Rows 2 & 3 form the pattern work them alternatively until your square has 11 rows in total.

Make another 11 of these squares - 12 in total.

This is how your week two squares will work within the final make-up.

I will be back next week with Square number 3.
